To all of those who have supported me and my efforts on behalf of our community over the past decade, I want to offer my most sincere thanks and remind you that the job we have started is not done yet.
In the upcoming weeks, a number of very important bills of mine will be up for consideration in the Legislature. I hope you will continue to stand behind change to move our Valley forward. From air quality to protecting our groundwater from urban dumping, your commitment to justice has been invaluable.
Tomorrow, the Senate will consider a measure to extend overtime pay to the farmworkers who play such a major role in sustaining the Valley’s agricultural economy. Senate Bill 1121 simply calls for workplace protections equal to those enjoyed by every other industry, for a job which exacts a great physical toll over long hours at minimal pay.
Then, next month, we will take up Senate Bill 1210 to tackle some major health problems which disproportionately affect Valley youth. The measure seeks to head off diabetes and obesity for the next generation, discouraging sugar over-consumption and funding preventative programs for our children.
Thank you for your support over the years. I wanted to send you one last note and blessing before I leave public office. It’s been a pleasure to serve you.
Sincerely Yours, Senator Dean Florez |
