ABC’s Nightline exposes cruel dairy industry practices Video shows truth of taildocking, outlawed in CA by Sen. Florez, with NY to follow suit
SACRAMENTO -- Tonight ABC World News and Nightline will feature revealing coverage on inhumane practices in the U.S. dairy industry, including taildocking – a practice outlawed by Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez (D-Shafter) last year in California through Senate Bill 135.
The measure was first mocked, and later quietly signed into law, by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. New York is now scheduled to debate similar legislation.
ABC News has obtained graphic undercover video of taildocking, a process in which a cow’s tail is crudely amputated without anesthetic – and without any proven benefit to food safety.
The video and related story can be found at the following url: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/animal-rights-us-dairy-industry/story?id=9658866 http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=9671990
The video will also air during World News with Diane Sawyer and later on Nightline. Please check your local television listings for those programs’ scheduled air times in your viewing region.
This Session, Senator Florez, chairman of the Senate Committee on Food and Agriculture, will serve as co-chair of the Animal Protection Caucus.
