Majority Leader makes it official with statement Florez Files to meet Deadline for June Ballot
SACRAMENTO -- Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez (D-Shafter), today submitted the necessary paperwork to place his statement on the June ballot in his race to become California’s next Lieutenant Governor.
The Secretary of State’s deadline for ballot statement submissions in the race was 5 p.m. today, ending months of widespread speculation by painting a clearer picture of who is running and who is not.
Below is a copy of Florez’s ballot statement:
“I’ve stood up to big corporations and polluters. I wrote the law to force them to clean our air and I proudly voted to reduce greenhouse gases. I believe in the picket line and prevailing wages for working people. I joined with the Humane Society against animal abusers and I wrote the law that protects farm animals from abuse. I support high speed rail for our environment and new green-collar jobs for our economy. I support a cap on all college fees so our kids can afford to gain the skills to acquire these jobs. I’m pro-choice, pro-environment and pro-labor. I’ve held over 250 investigations and public hearings because our government lacks transparency. As Lieutenant Governor, I want to force government to post every state contract and tax break on the Internet for public review. It’s our money and our government, and we should know the truth. I challenged a major state computer contract and saved taxpayers millions of dollars. For uncovering the truth, the leaders of the Assembly removed me as Chairman of the State Audit Committee. But I never gave in to their pressure. I’ve never given up on California! and I’ve never turned my back on our Democratic values. You have my record as a state senator, High Speed Rail Commissioner, Harvard MBA graduate, volunteer, husband and father. I respectfully ask for your vote.”
