Florez invited to stimulus talks with Administration On heels of meeting President Obama in L.A., Majority Leader flies East for NCSL
SACRAMENTO -- Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez (D-Shafter), today was proud to meet with President Barack Obama in Los Angeles after attending his well-received town hall meeting on the economy at the Miguel Contreras Learning Center, and will travel to the East Coast for further discussions with the Administration on the stimulus package.
By tomorrow morning, Florez, an early and ardent supporter of Obama’s race for the presidency, will be in Washington, D.C., representing the California State Senate at a White House meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures. Just over 60 leaders from a wide representation of states are expected to attend the economic briefing with President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and top policy advisors.
Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg asked Florez to represent the Senate on his behalf. Speaker Karen Bass or a representative of her choosing is expected to represent the California State Assembly.
“I am honored and humbled by this opportunity,” Florez said. “I welcome the chance to put my experience as an MBA to good use in reporting back to the Legislature on the great potential the stimulus has to create jobs and improve infrastructure in California.”
